On the Job by Anita Bruzzese Personal Trinkets at Work Can Hurt Image
On the Job by Anita Bruzzese Personal Trinkets at Work Can Hurt Image Your collection of snow globes now numbering somewhere in the dozens is quite eye-catching, covering nearly every available space in your cubicle. And that poster of the Hooters girls really adds a special touch, as does the photo of you and your buddies emptying the keg at a beach party.Ahhtheres nothing like having a workspace thats, well, comfy. Something like a home away from home. (Not to mention the screen saver of your dog giving birth is just awesome!)But according to a recent study, so many personal touches may actually hurt your professional image. Researchers at the University of Michigans Ross School of Business found that if more than one in five items that adorn a workers office or cubicle are personal in nature, others may view that as unprofessional. (For the record, personal touches were seen as photos, artwork, posters of movie stars, sports equipment, etc.)Still, this may be only an American bias, since a general aversion for blurring the work/personal boundary in the context of work is more reflective of American business practices that those in other countries, says Jeffrey Sanchez-Burks.Sanchez-Burks, an assistant professor of management and organizations at the school, says that Americans like to put on their game face when entering the workplace door, and dont cotton to the idea of a lot of personal gee-gaws cluttering up the space.

Writing a Resume For a Night Job With No Experience
Writing a Resume For a Night Job With No ExperienceYou may have been working on your resume and trying to get it up to date, but you may be at a loss as to how to write a resume for a night job with no experience. The truth is, a good resume does not have to cost you a lot of money, but it also does not have to be a product of cheap production. It is true that if you have never worked at all, you will have to spend more money in getting your resume organized. But you should be smart about how you organize your resume, because there are some cases where organizing your resume can actually make your resume look bad. So, the next time you have a situation where you do not have any experience, you should be smart enough to know how to organize your resume to make it look good.First of all, when you are going to write a resume for a night job with no experience, you should always start with the most important parts first. In other words, if you have already had experience, you should show that in your resume. If you do not have any experience, you should first and foremost show that in your resume. But in order to show this in your resume, you should first ask yourself why you are applying for a job in the first place. Before you get started, you should also know how much experience you have with the job you are applying for, so that you can make sure that your resume will be formatted properly. If you have more experience than what is necessary, you should be smart enough to start over and include all the experience you have with the job you are applying for.Since you will probably be using your resume in the same manner as you would use a normal resume, you should try to show how experienced you are for the job you are applying for. So, even if you do have any experience in that position, you should still use the information you have about the job that you are applying for.Because of this, you should make sure that your resume will look like a document that is full of detailed information about the position you are applying for. This way, you will be able to convince recruiters to take you seriously and give you the opportunity you want. Remember, they are looking for good candidates, and if they get all the details from your resume, they will know exactly what to do next. One thing that you should always remember when writing a resume for a night job with no experience is that you should have information that will show why you will be an asset to the company you are applying for. After all, you are not there just to work for them, but also to help them. One way you can show that you can contribute to the company, besides having all the basic information about the job, is by providing them with a sample of your work. Most employers want to see samples, so you should show your work to them to make sure that it looks good.

Having to Choose Work Over Family View my CNN segment on How You Can Have It All
Having to Choose Work Over Family View my CNN segment on How You Can Have It All A recent study revealed the moms are the breadwinners in 40% of households. I feel its great that women are making more and more moms are the breadwinners in families. But I hope its not because more men have recently been laid off due to employers who felt that they could get away with paying women less. There is still a wage gap that Id like to see disappear. The study showed that for married breadwinning moms, their families benefitted from a more comfortable lifestyle but made their marriages/family happiness more challenging. That is a problem and one I felt compelled to help with on a recent CNN appearance on the topic. In case you missed it, WATCH THE CNN SEGMENT HERE and read on for my best advice for working moms:Attitude matters. My advice to those in the study who finding are finding it a challenge to be the breadwinner and be a wife/mom, (I am a wife, mother and the breadwinner of my own household) is that you have to go in with the right attitude and love what you do. I give this advice to everyone in any job anywhere. If youre going to be miserable its useless and that stress is going to put a burden on any household regardless of how much you make or who the breadwinner is.Lead by Example. I think whats very important that women, especially moms recognize a child is looking to you as an example of how to approach making a living, running a household, and enjoying life. And for women who are breadwinners, it is probably more important. A bigger TV (or more money) doesnt make a happy household studies prove that. The Dad must be a partner. Or you need support (single moms) from family and friends. If its a career and a passion of the Mom, she must have buy-in and support to follow it If she doesnt she must Soul Search to find it or family life will be much more stressful. Raising a family properly is a full time job for households, so this support is critical.Set boundaries (even timelines) and establish family time. Make sure you make time for the others in your household too the child(ren) and even your partner. Everyone will want to see you and for you to be part of their lives. The CNN anchor focused on the public opinion of the increasing mom-breadwinner trend. I say dont worry what others think! Always follow your dreams and do what makes you happy. Ive found that is the best formula for having a happy family. The phrase working mother is redundant. ~Jane Sellman
